Jonkheer Gijs van Lennep is de Le Mans winner with inter alia Dr. Helmut Marko. He never really raced a 917 in these Gulf colors but raced an orange one as well as a Martini RT one. Once had a talk with him in his white 911 Carrera RS (1973/74) in the Hague and showed him the office of an accountant in Zorgvliet ! Really NICE guy !

Note the orange on the Porsche CAERRERA Abartth (GTL ?) of Ranson Webster. Is there a connect to Holland/The Netherlands due to the Orange striping ? I know for sure that Ben Pon raced a very similar car in Europe in the early 60′s, but is that Ransom’s car ? Do not think so. Anybody can cofirm this,

And then my favorite the Gesipa Porsche driven by Anatoly Arutunoff, the same guy that long ago drove Lancia Flaminia in the Targa Florio ! What a car that Porsche. I witnessed the big victory in 69 at the BOAC Brands Hatch when a squadron of these cars beat Amon/Rodriguez in a very nice Ferrari (333?) and the Alan Mann Racing Ford (driven by J. Brabham and ? if I recall well ! Those were THE days !

Great pictures! But, I think a Porsche 910 (possibly owned by Higgins, Grant and Cherry and driven by Cherry or Higgins) leading a Martini livered Porsche 908 was miss captioned (?).

Van Lennep drove for the Porsche sportscar team from 1967 and won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1971 with Helmut Marko driving the number 22 Martini sponsored Porsche 917K. They set a distance record that still stands today, covering 5335 km.

Group 6A has all the goodies – Scarabs, Ferrari Testa Rossas, Aston Martins, D-Types, Birdcages. By far the best class in my opinion.

You have the photos for the Aston Martins misidentified. The two photos labeled Gregory Whitten in a DBR-2 is in fact a DB-3S, while the one photo of a DBR-2 is labeled DB-3S
