2010 Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance Update

Isky 1924 Model T RoadsterPorsche and classic car enthusiasts will enjoy the field of more than 200 rare and vintage vehicles at the 2nd Annual Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, May 16, 9am – 4pm, at the Marin County Fairgrounds, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, California. Along with the array of cars on exhibition and judging of vehicles in 18 classes, the Marin Sonoma Concours will feature several special displays of rare and exotic vehicles.

The collection of Porsches – this year’s featured marque – includes a rare Porsche Spyder and, on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Ohio, rock singer Janis Joplin’s hand-painted, psychedelic, 1965 Porsche 356c Cabriolet. The 2010 Marin Sonoma Concours is also the last opportunity in the U.S. to view the Lexus LFA, with a base MSRP of $375,000, that claims to redefine the supercar for the 21st century.

The Concours will also feature an exhibit of landmark historic Hot Rods and Kustoms and a rare chance to honor two legendary creators. Blackie Gejeian, legendary Hot Rod builder and racer, now 83, plans to attend with two of his famous cars: The Emperor and The Shishkebab Special. The legendary “Camfather,” Ed Iskenderian, now 89, inventor of the Isky racing camshaft, will show his 1924 Model T Roadster, the very same car that was on a 1948 cover of Hot Rod Magazine.

In addition there will be an exhibit of classic commercial vehicles such as taxi cabs, fire engines and even a 1929 Buick Argentina Hearse. Cars will also be for sale at the Car Corral. The event also offers exhibitors of automotive products and services, live music, food, wine plus a display of original, contemporary car-related art. In addition, a flotilla of classic wooden boats will be moored in the Civic Center’s lagoon.

Admission at the gate is $15 general, and under 16 free with an adult. Tickets to a private VIP tent with gourmet food and wine pairings is also available for $75, which includes admission to the Concours. Raffle tickets to win a Parmigiani watch valued at $18,000 are also available for $25. The drawing will be held at the Marin Sonoma Concours, and the ticket holder need not be present to win.
