2010 H&H Pavilion Gardens Sale Highlights

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight (M471 Sport)
Originally conceived as a Group 4 homologation special, the Carrera RS 2.7 is – for many – the ultimate Porsche 911. Of the 1,580 cars made just 200 were to Lightweight (M471 Sport) specification with a mere 17 of those featuring right-hand drive. This particular example enjoyed considerable rallying success in period. Later reconfigured as a road car, it was restored by Autofarm before entering the current ownership during 1989. Fettled by Neil Bainbridge and Bob Watson since then, this iconic Porsche is finished in its factory correct hue of Tangerine. Pre-sale estimate: £180,000 – £220,000.

1959 Jaguar XK150 S 3.4 Open Top Sports
Supplied new to Canada and first road registered on 14th May 1959, this particular example was repatriated during 1990. Converted from left- to right-hand drive, recent work has seen it benefit from a body off, chassis up restoration. A genuine ‘S’ boasting matching chassis and engine block numbers, its subtly enhanced specification includes a five-speed manual gearbox, alternator conversion, aluminium radiator / Kenlowe fan, concealed electronic ignition and uprated brakes. Pre-sale estimate: £60,000 – £70,000.

1971 Ferrari Dino 246GT
Arguably the best looking and sweetest driving Ferrari of its generation, the Dino 246GT has long been prized by enthusiasts. Entering the current ownership in September 1978, this particular right-hand drive example competed in the Ferrari Maranello Challenge Series between 1985 and 1990 (winning its class during 1988). Treated to a bare metal respray and partial retrim some nineteen years ago, the Dino has been exclusively maintained by Nick Cartwright Specialist Cars since the mid 1990s. Pre-sale estimate: £58,000 – £65,000.

1931 Austin Seven EA Sports ‘Ulster’
A genuine ‘Ulster’ as recorded in the surviving Austin factory ledgers at Gaydon, this particular example was supplied new by Frank Hallam Ltd of Birmingham. The diminutive sportscar’s post World War Two ownership history is known, while an accompanying black and white photo suggests that it might have been resident (or holidayed) in Somerset during the 1930s. Understood to retain its original chassis, body, dashboard / instruments and registration number, ‘OV 9’ boasts a Tim Myall (Pigsty Engineering) tuned replacement engine and correct type close-ratio gearbox. Pre-sale estimate: £22,000 – £25,000.

1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEB Coupe
Styled by Paul Bracq, the coupe and cabriolet versions of Mercedes-Benz’s W110/111 renowned ‘Fintail’ range are widely recognised as design classics. Decidedly expensive when new, they allied well-appointed cabins to beautifully engineered running gear. The subject of an extensive restoration by Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists Frank Dale & Stepson, this particular UK-supplied example remains highly presentable. Used as a display vehicle to help launch a Mercedes-Benz service centre during the current ownership, it is believed but not warranted to have covered some 85,000 miles from new. Pre-sale estimate: £20,000 – £22,000.
