Worldwide Auctioneers brought a packed salesroom to its feet on Saturday, August 30th, when an exceptional 1959 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series III SWB broke all records at its inaugural Indiana event, The Auburn Auction. Described by Ferrari historian Dyke W. Ridgely as “a car of such presence and power as to almost defy description”, the Superamerica did just that, selling for an impressive $2.53 million.

“We are honored and thrilled to have achieved such a historic result”, said Rod Egan, Managing Director and Chief Auctioneer. “This Ferrari is a magnificent example and worthy of all the attention, accolades and price achieved. That it should take place at our first auction in Auburn on the foundations of what will be our new US Headquarters, makes it all the more pleasing for us. ”

The Auburn Auction was limited to an exceptional 80 handpicked motorcars and many stunning automobiles found new homes. Notable sales went to an imposing 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe at $742,520, very roadworthy 1960 Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster at $545,000, venerable 1911 Rolls Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Roi des Belges at $522,500 and stately 1934 Packard Twelve Model 1107 Five Passenger Touring at $495,000.

“Our ambition was to reinstate Auburn as the Classic Car Capitol of the world and bring the great cars back”, said John Kruse, Managing Partner of Worldwide Auctioneers. “We are delighted to have achieved this with our inaugural sale. After the success that we enjoyed at our first event here there is no doubt in my mind that this auction will become one of the greatest in the Nation”.

The Auburn Auction expands Worldwide Auctioneers annual schedule of strategically located sales, comprised of the Houston Classic Auction in May and Hilton Head Sports & Classic Car Auction, due to be held this year on November 1st. Quality consignments for the Hilton Head sale, held in conjunction with the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival are now invited and may be discussed with either Rod Egan or John Kruse on 800 990 6789.
