Auctions America by RM Fall Carlisle 2011 – Auction Preview

1957 Chrysler 300C Convertible, 1958 Dodge Coronet Super D-500 Convertible and 1959 DeSoto Firedome Convertible Auctions America by RM will host its inaugural Fall Carlisle auction on September 29 to October 1, 2011 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In association with Carlisle Event’s Fall Carlisle collector car weekend (September 28 – October 2), the multi-day Auctions America sale at the Carlisle Expo Center will feature a nearly 300 collector cars.
“Following a strong debut performance in Carlisle in April, we’re excited to return for the Fall Carlisle Weekend and to join forces with the Carlisle Events team once again for another ‘must attend’ automotive weekend for motoring enthusiasts,” says Donnie Gould, President, Auctions America by RM.
A feature of the Auctions America by RM Fall Carlisle 2011 will be a series of Chrysler vehicles from across the years, headlined by a trio of 1950s convertibles, including a legendary 1957 Chrysler 300C Convertible; a 1958 Dodge Coronet Super D-500 Convertible; and a luxurious, fully-restored 1959 DeSoto Firedome Convertible.
Gould adds, “The special Chrysler feature is a wonderful celebration of some of the company’s most popular models over the years. From superb 50s convertibles illustrating Virgil Exner’s iconic ‘Forward Look’ through to a selection of muscle cars from the 70s, there is truly something for everyone.”
The legendary Chrysler 300C, Motor Trend’s Car of the Year in 1957, was one of the most expensive, fastest and most powerful American production cars of its time. Finished in the color combination of Gauguin Red with a tan interior and wide whitewall tires, the 1957 Chrysler 300C Convertible consigned to Fall Carlisle 2011 was formerly owned by Emmy Award-winning actress, Valerie Harper. Presented in good condition, it is well-equipped with a pushbutton automatic transmission, a rare RCA /Victor record player and AM radio, along with power steering, brakes, windows, seat and top. (Est. $125,000 – $150,000).
The 1958 Dodge Coronet Super D-500 Convertible is finished in Crimson Red and White with a red vinyl and black cloth interior, with factory dual carburetors a 361ci V8 that produces 320bhp. Like the 300C, it also boasts a pushbutton automatic transmission, along with power steering, brakes and top. (Est. $130,000 – $160,000).
The 1959 DeSoto Firedome Convertible has been restored to show condition – the quality of which was recognized via an AACA Senior National First Prize Award in 2004. It is finished in Flamingo Pink with a dark grey cloth and vinyl interior, riding upon wide whitewall tires. Special features include dual rear antennas, dual exhaust, a Mirror-Matic rear view mirror, and AM radio. (Est. $130,000 – $160,000).
Other notable Chrysler entries are a 1948 Plymouth Business Coupe; an original 1973 Dodge Charger SE Hardtop, displaying just 39,100 miles; and a well-documented 1973 Plymouth Road Runner complete with factory sunroof.
Further highlighted consignments at the 2011 Auctions America by RM Fall Carlisle sale include a 1953 Buick Skylark; 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham; award-winning 1949 Kaiser Convertible, body number 12 of an estimated 30 built; freshly-restored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport and a six-speed 2001 BMW Z8 Roadster, only 11,000 miles from new.
