Mecum Auctions will offer collectors a piece (or two) of American racing history at the 2012 Monterey auction, scheduled for August 16-18 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel in Monterey, California. The 4th annual sale will be headlined by STP Lotus Type 56/3 Turbine driven by Graham Hill at the 1968 Indianapolis 500 and the 1972 Can-Am Championship-winning Porsche 917/10-003 Spyder.

Monaco Historic Grand Prix 2012 – Results and Pictures

The Monaco Historic Grand Prix 2012 was held 11-13 May on the 3.34 km Monaco Grand Prix Circuit. The biennial Monaco Historics is considered as one of the top historic track events, as classic grand prix and sports cars race on the same track as the modern Formula One cars competing in the upcoming 70th Monaco Grand Prix, held May 27th.

Organized by the Automobile Club de Monaco, the 8th Monaco Historics was comprised of seven races, each tailored to provide spectators and participants the opportunity to relive the motorsport event that started on 14th April 1929.

Headline Offerings at RM Auctions Monterey 2012

RM Auctions announced more featured offerings for the August 17–18, 2012 Monterey sale, a 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Berlinetta and a 1938 Talbot-Lago T23 Teardrop Coupe. The 410 S, chassis 0594 CM, is the only example built with a closed body, while the Talbot-Lago, chassis 93064, is the sole Jeancart-style Teardrop originally built upon a four-liter T23 chassis.

The Ferrari and Talbot-Lago join 120 automobiles slated for the 2012 Monterey Auction, including the previously announced Pebble Beach ‘Best of Show’ winning 1938 Horch 853A Erdmann and Rossi Sport Cabriolet.

Ferrari Owners’ Clubs Visits Belfast

Over 20 Ferrari cars lit up the slipways of Titanic Belfast May 11-12, 2012 as Ferrari Owners’ Clubs from Ireland and Scotland gathered in the city as part of a special Ferrari event in Ireland.

There, in front of the world’s largest Titanic attraction, were twenty-two Ferrari cars being photographed with the sculptured shape of the new Centre providing a spectacular backdrop.

Louisville Concours d’Elegance 2012 Information

RM Auctions Monaco 2012 – Auction Results

The RM Auctions Monaco 2012 auction was held 11-12 May at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, resulting in more than €33,521,710 ($43,410,615 USD) in total sales and an 87% sell-through rate.

Held during the same weekend as the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, the two-day RM Auctions Monaco 2012 sale presented a collection of more than 90 automobiles, 100 Ducati motorcycles and three boats.

Worldwide Houston Classic 2012 – Auction Results

1931 Cord L29 Cabriolet sold for $220,000

Worldwide Auctioneers held its Houston Classic Auction 2012 on Saturday, May 5th at the La Torretta Lake Resort in Montgomery, Texas, resulting in more than $7 million in sales and an 85% sell-through rate.

The 11th annual Houston Classic Auction saw nearly 120 motor cars cross the auction block, in addition to a selection of memorabilia from the Paul J. Meyer Estate Collection.

Fairfield County Concours Cancelled for 2012

Organizers of the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance announced there will be no 2012 edition of the event after the loss of its location at the Fairfield County Hunt Club. After months of evaluating numerous alternative venues and show formats, the organizers of the event made the decision to not host an event this year.

Bill Scheffler, Chairman of the Fairfield County Concours Consulting Group, said, “Each venue we evaluated brought with it challenges and opportunities for an event of our scope, with regional reputation and headed for national repute. Ultimately, we concluded that none of the options enabled us to continue our steady growth over eight years and onward towards our greater goals.”

Donington Historic Festival 2012 – Report and Photos

The Donington Historic Festival 2012 was held 5-6 May at Donington Park near Castle Donington in Leicestershire, England. Thousands of spectators enjoyed the 2nd annual Donington Historics, with its great display of tight racing action, plus off-track entertainment and even an unexpected day of sunshine on the Sunday.

Event organiser Duncan Wiltshire, said, “We could hardly have hoped for a more successful meeting with visitor numbers significantly up against last year. The weather on Saturday was a touch on the cold side, but against all expectations the sun came out on Sunday and shone on and off all day.”

Tasman Revival 2012 Information

Pebble Best of Show Horch Offered at RM Monterey 2012

A 1938 Horch 853A Erdmann and Rossi Sport Cabriolet, Best of Show winner at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, will headline the 2012 RM Auctions Monterey sale, scheduled for August 17–18 in Monterey, California.

One of only three known surviving examples of its kind, the Horch 853A was designed by Fritz Fiedler, who later created the BMW 315 and 328. Displaying coachwork by prominent German coachbuilders Erdmann and Rossi, it was the most expensive car offered by Auto Union, and came equipped with a 120 bhp 5.0-liter straight-eight engine and such modern features as vacuum-boosted hydraulic brakes, overdrive in all four gears, and a unique hydraulic jacking system.

Ford Cobra Shelby Reunion 2012 – Report

The Ford Cobra Shelby Reunion was held Saturday, April 21st, 2012 at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California.

Celebrating the Shelby Cobra, the Reunion brought together an amazing group of former Shelby employees, racing legends and Ford Cobra Shelby aficionados. More than 1,000 spectators participated in the day-long festivities which included a Show-n-Shine display, a racing legends panel discussion, a new exhibit and a special banquet.

From Mustangs to Cobras, more than 150 collector cars in every color lined the Museum parking lot.

Sponsored by Michelin, the rally will take place 25-26 August 2012 on the roads of Cheshire and North Staffordshire, with Special Stages in the grounds of castles and stately homes and service at Oulton Park race circuit.

Porsche Club Members meet at Schloss Solitude in Germany, 1960

For six decades, the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has been inseparably associated with the worldwide enthusiasm of the Porsche Club scene. 60 years ago, on 26 May 1952, seven passionate Porsche drivers founded the Porsche Club Hohensyburg in Westphalia. According to its articles of association, the common goal of this first club was to “unite all Porsche drivers in friendship and comradeship”. The creation of this first club was the foundation stone for a long and unique success story that has become a global phenomenon.

History of Motorsport Technology Conference Planned

RM Auctions Monaco 2012 – Auction Preview

The RM Auctions Monaco 2012 sale will be staged 11-12 May at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The two-day, biennial RM Monaco auction is held the same weekend as the Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

RM Auctions has assembled more than 90 automobiles for the 2012 Monaco sale, including one of two 1957 Ferrari 625 TRC Spiders ever built; a 1966 Ferrari 206 S Dino Spyder, offered for the first time in 40 years; 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider; and the Ferrari-engined Hydroplane racing boat, ARNO XI.

Keeneland Concours d’Elegance 2012 Information

The Keeneland Concours d’Elegance 2012 will be held Saturday, July 21st on the grounds of the historic Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky. The 9th annual event will feature a field of more than 150 classic automobiles and motorcycles.

This year’s event will feature Packard, divided into pre-war and post-war classes, in addition to the Motorcycle Preservation Class and the Racing Class with historic NASCAR racers. Collectors will compete for trophies in 18 classes of classic, vintage and exotic autos and motorcycles.

Bonhams Monaco 2012 – Auction Preview

The Bonhams Les Grandes Marques à Monaco 2012 auction will be held 11th May at the Musée des Voitures du Prince in Monte Carlo. The 26th annual sale coincides with the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, which is held every two years on the Monaco F1 street course.

Headline offerings at the 2012 Bonhams Monaco auction include examples from Bugatti, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Maserati and Facel Vega.
