Jaguar E-Type at Nurburgring Oldtimer Grand Pix 2010The Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD) Oldtimer Grand Prix 2010 was held 13-15 August at the Nürburgring in Germany. For the 38th year, the famed Nürburgring transformed itself into a rolling open-air museum for the Oldtimer GP, offering an excellent background for historical motor sport.

The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix 2010 saw a field in excess of 600 participants, again making the event one of the largest vintage car races in Europe. The historic races were mainly held on the 4.638 km Grand Prix Circuit at the Nürburgring, although one endurance race was fielded on the 25.378 km Nordschleife Circuit.

Racing classes at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix 2010 included Historic Grand Prix Masters; Revival Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft; World Sportscar Masters; Italian Historic Car Cup; Historic Grand Prix Cars before 1960 and Pre-War, among others. One of the many weekend highlights was the Racing and GT cars up until 1961, in which Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, Maserati, Mercedes and Porsche battled on the track.

The Revival Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft racing class was another fan favorite, as the reunion of the spectacular cars from the German Racing Sport Championship series of the 70’s and 80’s brought a lot of energy to the Ring. The field included multiple Porsche 911s and 935s, BMW CSLs and M1s, Ford Capris and others. Similar to the original series, German Klaus Ludwig again finished on top with the 1979 Porsche 935.

Photographer Jurrie Vanhalle documented the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix 2010 for Sports Car Digest. He reports that Saturday’s weather was nice and sunny, but that Sunday was, as you can see from some images, a very wet day with a lot of delays and canceled races. The Grand Prix Masters race on Sunday tried two test runs of two laps behind a safety car but they were forced to cancel as well.

Jurrie did a wonderful job capturing the depth and quality of the Oldtimer Grand Prix field. He produced so many excellent images in fact, that we have chosen to present them in two separate stories, with the first being this gallery of 588 pictures. To see more from Jurrie, visit www.vjimages.be.
