The Bund Classic Concours 2014 was staged October 17-19 in Shanghai, China. Held on the lawn of the iconic villa of Waitanyuan No.1 in Shanghai’s Huangpu district and organized by China Rendez-Vous Ltd., the second annual event entertained nearly 10,000 Chinese automobile enthusiasts with the spirit of the classic car world.
The Concours d’Elegance started on the afternoon of October 17th. On the afternoon of October 19th, the climax of the 3-day event, winners of Concours d’Elegance award were announced among the 50 classic cars on display. Sandra Button, the Chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, returned as the chief judge of this panel that consisted of judges from 13 countries including China, United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, Singapore, Hong Kong and Burma.
Sandra Button, Chief Judge of Bund Classic, said, “The quality of Chinese classic cars was approaching the European market, which showed that the classic car market and culture were rapidly getting bigger. More importantly, as Chinese and Asian collectors were enhancing the cognition of classic car culture, China would be probably the classic car market leader in the future.”
The 2014 Bund Classic attracted many classic cars from China and across the world including a 1935 Hudson Terraplane; 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II; 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III; 1940 Mercedes-Benz 320 Model A Cabriolet; 1942 Packard Clipper; 1948 Chrysler Town and Country; 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster; 1963 Jaguar E-Type Roadster; 1965 Ford Shelby Cobra and 1966 Ferrari 330 GT.
Best of Show at the Bund Classic Concours 2014 was awarded to the 1928 Packard Model 443 entered by Mr. Gao Lu. Additional award winners at the 2nd annual event included the 1937 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, entered by Mr. Gao Lu, that won the Pre-1950 Elegance Award; Kurt Eugelhorn’s 1949 Jaguar XK120 won the Post-1950 Elegance and People’s Choice Awards; the 1940 Mercedes-Benz 320 Model A Cabriolet of Arthur Bechtel took home the Pre-1950 People’s Choice Award and the Chairman’s Award went to the 1958 Audi 1000 SP entered by Jason Huang.
Apart from the Concours d’Elegance, 2014 Bund Classic featured a grand classic car parade on the Bund that attracted attention. A selection of classic cars made their parade journey in the morning of October 18th. The classic car parade started from No.1 Waitanyuan and continued along the Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu. With the scenic background of Shanghai Bund World Architecture, visitors and guests had the chance to witness the charm and charisma of classic cars of different ages.
