Cautiously Optimistic – 1956 Porsche 356

For anyone interested in entering the world’s finest driving events without breaking the bank, it’s hard to beat an early Porsche 356. This particular 1956 Porsche 356 appears to be a solid car at first glance. The silver over blue scheme is a striking color combination and the date correct engine is the rare and desirable 1600 Super with 75 horsepower. The panels show good shut lines and all of the trim appears to be present and in good shape. That said, we have some concerns. The largest of which is the ding on the front fender. A dinged car is a driven car—and we like that—but this ding shows cracks in a way that suggests the presence of heavy paint, primer, or possibly filler. Also, the engine is not numbers matching. If we were looking for a Porsche 356 to drive on open road events, this would definitely be on our radar as it looks ready to be driven everywhere short of a concours field and should sell well below the huge numbers earned by top-shelf 356s. Before buying, though, we’d want to spend some time with the coupe, a Certificate of Authenticity and a magnet. Find the Porsche for sale here on eBay in Newport Beach, California.
