This auto-crossing Austin Mini sports a full kit of Mini performance parts from front disc brakes, rear Alfin drums, and adjustable suspension to a 1275cc Cooper engine with a Sprite cylinder head. Find it here on eBay in Asheville, North Carolina with a buy-it-now price of just $5,000.
Austin Minis have long been celebrated for their ability to embarrass far more powerful cars with their plucky charm and performance, and this car would seem no different. With its stripped interior, removable fiberglass front end, and adjustable suspension, this Mini is built to earn fast time of the day at the expense of concours trophies.
Photos of the car with its front end removed show a tidy and well sorted engine bay, a newer-looking radiator and auxiliary coolers, a single SU carburetor and Yokohama performance tires on 10” wheels.
Inside the interior is largely stripped with the exception of an original seat and a roll bar with highly-suspect side impact bars.
If it were ours we’d take it one of two directions. For auto crossing we’d install a high quality one-piece race seat and a new six-point roll cage. For our favorite option—track day/high speed touring toy—we’d redo the interior like an original rally mini and install some 10” Minilite wheels. Even if the next owner decides to do nothing, it’s hard to lose on a well prepped $5,000 Mini.
