Drag King – 1967 Shelby GT500 Test Car

If the seller’s claims are true, this 1967 Shelby GT500 spent a month as a factory-built drag car before being sold as used Shelby Mustang. The details of the car’s interesting history lie in a Marti report that shows Ford engineers pulled this car from the assembly line and installed a 428 Cobra Jet engine, 4-speed transmission and a full roll cage. Then, after the drag tests were complete, the GT500 was sold to the general public where it received the care of a Mustang club president and the current owner, who has driven the car very little in his 24 years of ownership. 1967 Shelby GT500s—particularly in Dark Moss Green—are fantastic cars, but those with this kind of provenance are even better. Find it for sale here on eBay in West Chester, Ohio.

No Production number listed. 98% of Shelby adds list the cars production #. Rear valance appears early type with half moon exhaust trim pieces from the 66 Mustang rear valance cut in half for the 67 model; hood vents represent a late car; washer reservoir tank (not bladder bag type) shows late car; outboard grill high beam lamps shows late car; brake warning sticker on visor represents 66 GT350 feature; steering wheel none stock for 67 model. 10 spoke wheel valve stem location shows OEM period correct wheel design; Would be nice to see what production # this car is to track its history………………………….
