This 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona stands among the most beautiful mid-engined sports racers ever designed and boasts a 270bhp 2-liter V8 that sounds as good as it looks. Find it offered here at RM Auction’s Monaco sale.
First designed in 1965, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 and its later iterations competed at the highest levels of international motorsport through 1977. And while any twelve-year racing career is surprising, the Tipo 33’s is especially so considering the first car lacked power and reliability. It wasn’t until the second version of the Tipo 33, the 33/2, that victory trophies multiplied with class or overall wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the Targa Florio, Imola and the Nurburgring 1000km.
This car is just one of 28 Tipo 33/2s constructed and is the chassis that drove to victory at Imola with Nino Vaccarella and Teodoro Zeccoli sharing driving duties. It looks much the same as it did during its competitive heyday with sleek fiberglass bodywork covering its mid-engined layout.
Underneath sits the fantastic 2-liter V8 that generates a remarkable 270hp. In a car that weighs under 1300lbs this is huge horsepower and by all accounts the Tipo 33/2 accelerates with alarming ferocity and beautiful sound. Braking and cornering too, are claimed to be outstanding.
This, then, is a fantastic opportunity to gain entry into the world’s greatest automotive events and to enjoy a beautiful sports racer that remains street legal.

It’s a mid-engined.
Corrected. Thank you.
Yes, it’s a mid-engined. A mid-engined, red fantasy………………….
Well, they were thinking about the T33 in 1965 perhaps, but the first car appeared in 1967 at the Fleron Hillclimb in belgium. The T33-2 here raced in 1968 and 1969 as an Autodelta car before going to a privateer.
I just thought I’d say, I would sell my soul to be able to own this car, if only my soul were worth that much! Beyond desirable.
