Like their much celebrated offspring, first generation BMW 3-series like this 1978 320i are fantastic cars worthy of recognition. And we’re not just saying that because an unnamed staffer counted one as his first car and still suffers guilt having driven it into the ground. We’re saying it because they have a fantastically well balanced chassis, reasonably powerful engine and respond incredibly well to even the smallest suspension modifications. Throw in the incredible parts interchangibility of the 320i and this is an inexpensive European hot rod in the making. This particular 320i looks great in its original shade of arctic blue and with just 66,000 miles the bodywork, engine compartment and interior look great. All surfaces appear in excellent condition and we particularly like this car’s inclusion of desirable sport options like the Recaro seats, the “Sport” steering wheel and the Bosch fog lights. If we could get this car for anything like the current $5,200 first bid we’d throw some extra money towards European bumpers, 318-style single headlamps, a 320is limited slip differential, Bilstein sport shocks, and 323i rear trailing suspension arms with their disc brakes. Everything could be backdated if necessary but, in the meantime, we’d have the coolest commuter in town. Find the BMW for sale here on eBay in Mooresville, North Carolina.
