Inexpensive Prototype – 1985 Tiga GT285

While the seller of this 1985 Tiga GT285 gives little information regarding its history, we have no doubt it’s quite the performer with a Mazda wankel engine and high downforce bodywork. Since closing its doors in 1989, Tiga has slowly been overlooked by racing historians despite the company’s remarkably successful 15-year production run. One look at the photos of this chassis shows the manufacturer stood at the forefront of mid 80s technology with the aluminum monocoque supporting a mid-mounted engine, a tubular crash structure and a fully adjustable and rose jointed suspension. Best of all, the production-based Mazda wankel is reliable as a sledgehammer and not much more expensive. This is the perfect way to go prototype racing without a prototype budget. Find it for sale here on eBay in Birmingham, Alabama.
