We don’t care that this 1950 Lancia Aurelia B50 Cabriolet’s listing contains no information beyond claims that the paint, engine, paperwork and license plate are all original. Or that two of the three included photos are nearly the same. It’s a Lancia, after all, and a completely irrational ad is the perfect first step towards Lancia ownership. Well-reasoned people, we’re told, would probably worry about the sometimes tricky “sliding-pillar” front suspension or the complex assembly at the rear of the car combining the differential, transmission, clutch and inboard drum brakes. But reason can’t explain the shear joy of driving one of Italy’s finest marques, the feel of a Vittorio-Jano-designed chassis at speed, the sonorous pull of the world’s first production V6, or the visceral appeal of topless, Pininfarina coachwork. This Aurelia is perfect in its patinated condition and we, for one, can’t think of any reason not to enjoy it on every rally and sun-soaked road.
