We’ve seen some interesting cars on eBay lately but this Mille Miglia eligible, Fiat-Topolino-based 1939 racing special is easily the most unique. Find it for sale here on eBay in Eze, France.
Listed by the same seller as an OSCA replica and the Dino replica we profiled here, this tiny barchetta is said to have been built in 1939 and comes with paperwork and build photos supporting these claims. Unfortunately, the seller is frugal with his or her words and says little beyond the car having and alloy body, being built with a Topolino as the basis, and being eligible for the Mille Miglia.
Claims that the little car is based on a Topolino are bolstered by build photos showing the bodywork support taking shape on what appears to be a Topolino chassis. The post-build photos and current images show wheels and a transverse leaf-spring front suspension that are clearly Fiat 500 based as well. Assuming this is the case, mechanical parts will be both easy to source and relatively cheap, and the next owner can engage the large Fiat community for tuning and maintenance advice.
Better still, as the car appears to have been built in 1939, the little open roadster would be eligible for the selective and prestigious Mille Miglia. Usually filled with seven and eight-figure cars, the Mille Miglia would be a fine venue on which to enjoy the barchetta’s charms and this car’s far smaller price leaves plenty of cash for the world’s finest rain gear.
We love the looks and story of this little racer and wouldn’t hesitate to enter every rally or tour that fit into the schedule. Judging by the disproportionate attention small cars enjoy at auctions and races, we’re betting this “little boat” will steal the show from far larger, and more expensive machinery.
