Some sports cars are admired by a select few who understand exactly what they’re looking at. Others, like this 1965 Shelby Cobra 289, are admired by anyone with a pulse. It’s true, Shelby Cobras of all stripes stop people in their tracks whether they care about cars or not. And while this particular example in its metallic blue paint and fine condition will no doubt do the same, there are many reasons why it will also appeal to the Shelby aficionados among us. To begin with, this Cobra among the last of the 289s made and therefore possesses all of the improvements Shelby American made to the small-block Cobra. These include the 289 V8, rack and pinion steering, and side vents. But these aren’t the only desirable feature of this car as it also comes equipped with side exhaust, chrome wire wheels, chrome bumperettes, a quick fill fuel cap, dual-quad carburetors and a hard top. The result is a Cobra with near race car performance, street manners and show stopping looks. Photos show the Cobra to be in impeccable condition with excellent paint, interior, and mechanical detailing, and it promises to make a welcome addition to the finest collections and automotive events. Find the Cobra for sale here at Mecum’s upcoming Monterey, California Auction.
