When it comes to mass-produced Maseratis, we’ve tended to focus on the V8-engined Bora. This inexpensive and fine 1978 Maserati Merak, however, makes us think we’ve been looking at the wrong car. Meraks were, after all, quite the performer for their time with a powerful V6 engine mounted midship in a uniquely styled and surprisingly spacious chassis. Plus, the smaller engine even allowed the addition of a small backseat perfect for emergencies and the very short. This particular car shows just over 32,000 miles and looks to have enjoyed careful ownership from new. The paint is shiny and clean and the interior shows only minor wear and fading. The seller indicates the engine runs strong and the car is very fast. Better still, the seller has posted a buy it now price of just $28,900. As many of these cars led hard lives it’s rare to find a Merak that appears ready for the road or show field and does not require extensive and expensive repairs.
