We’re Converts – 1974 Porsche 914-6 Conversion

With the price of Porsche 914-6s steadily climbing, there’s something to be said for the less expensive and guilt free driving pleasures of 6 cylinder conversions like this 1974 914. They’re just as fast, can be indistinguishable from the factory originals and can be modified and driven hard without worrying you’ve desecrated a piece of history. This particular 914-6  started life as the standard 4 cylinder and was then backdated to full 914-6 status with the tasteful earlier chrome bumpers and the addition of a 2.4 liter 1972 911 motor. The seller claims the engine was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago, has been completely detailed and includes Carrera tensioners and new motor mounts. The engine also wear a stock-style 914-6 air box but comes with the racier looking rain shields should the next owner care to run those instead. Outside the 914-6 conversion sports genuine narrow Fuchs wheels, straight panels and beautiful paint in the increasingly popular shade of Stone Grey. The paint has been carried onto the sail panels and targa top and could easily be covered in the factory black vinyls if the next owner cared for the stock look. Inside, bucket seats with corduroy inserts sit on stock 914 seat rails and join what appears to be German square weave carpeting and a well preserved dash. The result of all this work is a 914-6 that looks ready for wide open blasts down our favorite mountain road. Best of all, with a buy it now price of $17,500 the next owner will likely be buying this car for far less than the build cost. Find the 914 for sale here on eBay in Seattle, Washington.
