The second annual event paid tribute to the heritage of automotive development at the famed track for more than 100 years.

Held in conjunction with the Indianapolis 500, the Celebration of Automobiles 2012 featured approximately 200 classic cars from 1920 to ’70 on display among some of the most iconic spots at IMS, including the Pagoda Plaza and Legends Row.

Velodrom Millenaris 9 295x196 Velodrom Millenaris 2012 Report and PhotosVelodrome – according to the dictionary definition, it is an arena for track cycling, which features steeply banked oval tracks, consisting of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights. Just like in the case of the more than hundred years old Millenaris Sports Center in the heart of Budapest, but with one major difference – recently, this specific velodrome was discovered by some Hungarian classic vehicle enthusiasts, who instantly imagined how historic cars and motorcycles could circulate on the oval track.

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2012 was held Saturday, May 5th on the grounds of the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, California. More than 1,500 motorcycle enthusiasts and collectors attended the celebration, which showcased 250 motorcycles from the past, present and concepts for the future.

The 4th annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering celebrated the Evolution of the Motorcycle, featuring Indian Motorcycles.

After months of evaluating numerous alternative venues and show formats, the organizers of the event made the decision to not host an event this year.

Bill Scheffler, Chairman of the Fairfield County Concours Consulting Group, said, “Each venue we evaluated brought with it challenges and opportunities for an event of our scope, with regional reputation and headed for national repute. Ultimately, we concluded that none of the options enabled us to continue our steady growth over eight years and onward towards our greater goals.”

The Louis Vuitton Classic Award is given annually to an automobile judged Best of the Best by the jury of specialists at Louis Vuitton. To become eligible, the car first has to be judged “Best of Show” at one of the top events worldwide, including the Cavallino Classic, Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Concours d’Elegance of America, Quail Motorsports Gathering, Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, among others. (The 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K won “Best of Show” at the 2011 Concours d’Elegance of America). These winners are then examined by a jury of specialists and the judging criteria considers the elegance and the refinement of the coachwork, exterior and interior, the mechanical beauty, the form and function appropriateness, as well as the authenticity, the historical importance and the rarity.

In addition to the Keller’s Mercedes-Benz 540 K Autobahn Kurier, other cars nominated for the 2011 Louis Vuitton Classic Award were a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Vignale (Cavallino Classic), 1933 Duesenberg ‘Twenty Grand’ (Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance), 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale (Concorso d’Eleganze Villa d’Este), 1955 Ferrari 375 America Coupe Speciale (Quail Motorsports Gathering) and 1934 Voisin C-25 Aerodyne (Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance).

The judging panel for the Louis Vuitton Classic Award is chaired by Christian Philippsen; other judges were: Chris Bangle (Chris Bangle Associates); Ian Cameron (Rolls-Royce); Luc Donckerwolke (Volkswagen Group Advanced Design); Matteo Fioravanti (Fioravanti); Fabrizio Giugiaro (Italdesign – Giugiaro); Gert Hildebrand (Chery Quantum Auto); Wahei Hirai (Toyota Group Design); François Melcion (Rétromobile); Shiro Nakamura (Nissan Group Design); Adolfo Orsi (Historical Selecta); Roberto Piatti (Torino Design); Lorenzo Ramaciotti (Fiat Group Design); Michael Robinson (Bertone); Gorden Wagener (Daimler Group Design) and Ed Welburn (General Motors Group Design).

The Louis Vuitton Classic Award ceremony will take place in Monaco on April 23, 2012, where Louis Vuitton will present a specially commissioned sculpture to the Kellers.

Monaco Concours March 2012 242 295x196 Monte Carlo Concours 2012 Report and PhotosThe third annual Monte-Carlo Concours d’Elegance was held Sunday, March 11, 2012 in the fantastic location of Hercules Port in the Principality of Monaco. The event is an integral part of Monaco Motor Legends International Trade Fair for Collectors and Professionals of Vintage Cars which ran from March 8-11th.

The 2012 Monte Carlo Concours was scheduled earlier than last year given the requirement to fit in with Monaco’s event schedule, in particular the Formula One GP and the biennial Historic Grand Prix. Nevertheless, the weather was excellent: warm, dry and clear blue skies every day. Entrants and sponsors also enjoyed impressive hospitality at the Hotel Hermitage and the exclusive Automobile Club de Monaco.

The 20th annual event will feature “Classic French Curves” and Delahaye, with French car collectors Peter and Merle Mullin serving as Grand Marshals.

“Our featured marque will be Delahaye, which made some of the most luxurious and elegant classic French cars,” said Exhibit Chairman Ray Johnson.

Now in its 18th consecutive year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the event will only focus on just one set of vehicles this year.

As a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year, Goodwood and Cartier will gather together a selection of vehicles all personally owned or used by Her Majesty.

Held on a fairly ominous, cool and windy day, the event nonetheless attracted more than 30 Italian vehicles and an estimated 500 spectators.

Participants at the first annual Concorso Atlantico included a small-block Chevy-powered 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Pinin Farina to a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia, in addition to several Alfa Romeo and Fiat racers.

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering returns to the grounds of the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, California on Saturday, May 5th, 2012.

The 4th annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering will pay tribute to the Evolution of the Motorcycle, featuring Indian Motorcycles, while also showcasing legendary motorcycles from the past, present and concepts for the future. The event will feature Marty Dickerson’s 1948 Vincent Rapide Racer and the “Alligator Bike” of Dan Gurney, among others.
