Classics at the Castle 2012 Information

Porsche 911 RS, Porsche ConcoursThe Classics at the Castle Porsche Concours 2012 will be held Sunday, September 2nd on the grounds of Hedingham Castle, situated in the village of Castle Hedingham in England. This year’s event for classic Porsches built from 1948 to 1973 will have a new format and layout.

Organizers announced that the focus of attraction during the day will be the special cars driven up the hill–at slow speed but with lots of noise–to a stage by the medieval castle where there will be a commentary about each car, its racing history and drivers.

Having first appeared at the Paris salon in the Autumn of 1972, the Carrera RS is due to celebrate its fortieth anniversary in September 2012. A date which coincides perfectly with this year’s event. The 2012 Porsche Concours will celebrate this historic milestone with a parade of forty Carrera RS model types, plus a number of the subsequent RS models that followed. Owners of factory built 2.7 RS Carreras are invited to claim one of the forty slots available. Parade participants will receive a limited edition RS anniversary commemorative gift.

In addition to this year’s 40th Anniversary RS Carrera parade, organizers also aim to coordinate a chronological parade of the various pre-74 production models to include a group from each of the 356, 912, 914 and 911 types.

Another highlight of the 2012 Classics at the Castle Porsche Concours will be dinner in the company of Vic Elford, one of Porsche’s most notable factory drivers from the 1960s and 1970s. Accompanied by a display of historic racing cars and film footage of some of Quick Vic’s winning performances, dinner will be served in the picturesque grounds of Hedingham Castle on Saturday, September 1st.

Elford is the only driver to race every version of the Porsche 917 and is one of only four drivers ever to record six major victories at the classic Nurburgring. He is also a Targa Florio, Sebring, Daytona, Monte Carlo Rally and European Rally Championship winner.

Places are limited so organizers suggest booking now for this unique opportunity to spend an evening with the driver and the cars that established Porsche as the marque to beat.
