ELVA 50th Anniversary at Sebring

This week’s SVRA Vintage Races at Sebring will honor the 50th Anniversary of Elva sports racers and those who drove in the 1958 12 Hours of Sebring which included ‘Doc’ Wyllie, Chuck Dietrich, Burdette Martin, ‘Rip’ Ripley, Bill Milliken, Cameron Argentsinger, John Bentley and Frank Baptista all of whom entered Elva Mk.II and Mk.III sports racers in the 12-hour race.

All Elva sports racers from Marks 1 thru VIII, Couriers and the Formula Juniors were invited to attend and race on Sebring’s famous 4-mile track. In addition, there will be a special Elva paddock, displays and reception party, plus an escorted drive to downtown Sebring for selected cars.

The schedule for this race is different than most because the ALMS 12 Hours of Sebring race begins on Saturday at 10:05am. Registration, tech and the mandatory driver meeting kick off on Wednesday, followed by practice/qualifying later the same day. The Motor Check Series Enduro is Thursday afternoon, and the normal UBS Sprint races are on Friday. Additionally, there will be exhibition laps for selected competition cars before the 12 Hours of Sebring main Sebring race.

That sounds like a great event.
