A 1955 Jaguar D-Type, chassis no. XKD 530, is among the latest highlights for the RM Auctions Amelia Island 2015 sale, to be held March 14th at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida. The official auction of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the single-day RM Auctions sale will see 100 automobiles and select memorabilia cross the block, including 14 vehicles with pre-sale estimates exceeding $1 million.

“Without question, this year’s catalogue represents the finest offering we’ve had the privilege of bringing to Amelia Island in the event’s 17-year history,” said Gord Duff, Car Specialist, RM Auctions.“Our strong track record at Amelia Island has proven it a fantastic venue for the sale of historic sports and racing cars, and the Jaguar D-Type is an outstanding addition to this year’s roster. We’re also thrilled to present the factory publicity and U.S.-homologation prototype Lamborghini Miura SV, another car of great historical significance. Collectors attending our Amelia Island sale can not only expect quality of product, but also the first-class customer service and presentation that has become synonymous with the RM experience.”

The Jaguar D-Type, XKD 530, joins the previously announced 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet as a headline attraction for the 2015 RM Auctions Amelia Island sale. One of 54 D-Types produced for privateer use, it was delivered new to famed Finnish tennis player, Curt Lincoln, who piloted the car to numerous 1st and 2nd place finishes throughout Finland, as well as in ice racing competition. A subsequent owner commissioned an extensively researched restoration by Jaguar experts which was completed in 2003. Since then, it has run the Mille Miglia four times and has been invited to numerous top Concours, including the 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Under its current ownership, the car has been carefully sorted, regularly exercised and maintained to ensure it is ready for reliable road or track use. XKD 530 is offered with a FIVA Passport and FIA papers, along with a host of other restoration and historic documentation (Est. $3,750,000 – $4,250,000).

“The Jaguar D-Type is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of the 1950s,” added Shelby Myers, Car Specialist, RM Auctions. “With the prices of Italian endurance race cars currently soaring, the D-Type Jaguar represents incredible value, especially considering its historical significance and eligibility for the world’s great vintage motorsport events. We’re thrilled to have been entrusted with the sale of XKD 530 from its gentleman owner. It has a terrific provenance, is incredibly well-documented, and boasts a unique racing record which saw it tear across the Scandinavian ice fields in period.”

In addition to the D-Type, RM’s 2015 Amelia Island auction will also lift the gavel on a 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV and a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider.

One of 21 Miura SV examples built specifically for the U.S. market, the 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV, chassis no. 4884, was the prototype built for EPA testing and the first American SV sold. A factory publicity car, it appeared on the official factory brochure and was displayed at the 1971 Boston Auto Show, finished in the same (original) color combination as it is presented today. 4884 was eventually acquired by Lamborghini expert Joe Sackey, who commissioned a complete restoration prior to the car’s display at the 2006 Concorso Italiano where it was awarded First in Class honors. Among other accolades, it was chosen as the cover car for Sackey’s 2008 work, The Lamborghini Miura Bible, and has been featured in numerous magazines (Est. $2,250,000 – $2,750,000).

The 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider, chassis no. 15417, joins a group of 12 Ferraris slated for RM’s 2015 Amelia Island podium. One of examples constructed, it was delivered new to the U.S. through Luigi Chinetti Motors and spent time in several Midwestern collections before being acquired by Jeffery Schwartz of New Jersey in 1998. Schwartz commissioned a full restoration, refinishing the car in its original color combination of Nero over a brown leather interior with black Daytona seat inserts. Shown at the 2013 Cavallino Classic, the Spider received a Platinum Award, highlighting the quality of its restoration almost 15 years after completion. This Ferrari Classiche certified Daytona Spider remains in excellent condition, ready for its next Concours (Est. $3,000,000 – $3,500,000).
