The duPont will be among the featured marques at the Pebble Beach Concours 2015, to be held August 16th at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Richard “Dicky” Riegel III, a member of the duPont family, has a strong first memory of the only duPont Model H in existence. As he and friends emerged from their first grade classroom, his grinning father awaited him in the one-of-a-kind car.

“Dad’s enthusiasm and love for cars was infectious,” says Dicky. “Dad wasn’t always a man of many words, but you wanted to be with him because you could sense how much he appreciated the vehicles he was around — which immediately sank in to me. My early love of cars was inevitable, unavoidable.”

The Portland Vintage Racing Festival presented by SVRA was held July 9-12, 2015 at the 12-turn, 1.967-mile Portland International Raceway in Oregon. A field of close to 160 cars competed under perfect Pacific Northwest weather. In addition to SVRA’s 10 race groups, the Historic Trans-Am cars were included in the weekend’s schedule. The class is a fan favorite wherever they run and Portland was no exception.

Thursday was an optional test day with the entry broken into three groups, each having four sessions throughout the day. The racing picked up on Friday with each of the 11 race groups getting two 25-minute sessions.

Eifel Rallye Festival 2015 – Report and Photos http://www.sportscardigest.com/eifel-rallye-festival-2015-report-and-photos/ http://www.sportscardigest.com/eifel-rallye-festival-2015-report-and-photos/#comments Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:00:54 +0000 http://www.sportscardigest.com/?p=84049 The Eifel Rallye Festival 2015 was staged 23-25 July in the Eifel Mountains of Western Germany. A strong field of more than 160 rally machines from more than 35 manufacturers represented five decades of rallying history. The 3-day rally was held over eight special stages in and around the town of Daun, turning the volcanic Eifel region into the center of historic rally racing.

The 2015 running of the Eifel Rallye Festival offered spectators the rare chance to see the cars that made the history of rallying. The entry list began with an Volvo Amazon P122 and an Austin-Healey 3000 from 1961 and stretched up to a Peugeot 206 WRC from 2003, the youngest car ever to take part in an Eifel Rallye Festival. All in all, there were twenty-four Group B cars plus rare prototypes such as the Citroen DS and SM Proto or the Skoda 160RS MTX of which three examples were ever built. And this year’s Festival saw a record of seven World Rally Cars coming under starter’s orders.

Corvette Collection Offered at Mecum Monterey 2015 http://www.sportscardigest.com/corvette-collection-offered-at-mecum-monterey-2015/ http://www.sportscardigest.com/corvette-collection-offered-at-mecum-monterey-2015/#respond Tue, 28 Jul 2015 13:00:05 +0000 http://www.sportscardigest.com/?p=84078 The Ed Foss Low-Mileage Corvette Collection will be featured at the Mecum Monterey 2015 auction, scheduled for August 13-15 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel in California during Monterey Classic Car Week. The Collection includes 26 of some of the lowest-mileage and most original examples of America’s sports car in existence.

From the 27th 1953 Roadster produced with less than 4,000 miles on its odometer, to a 2003 50th Anniversary Edition with 135 miles, the Foss Collection is diverse for a model-specific assemblage; one thing all do have in common though, save for the two race cars in the group, is that not a single one breaks the 10,000-mile mark, and most are well below that number with 19 sporting less than 5,000 miles and seven with less than 200 miles.

The competitors of Monza Historic were united with the past of this track on which were written some of the most beautiful, but also most tragic, pages of the motorsport history.

This 250 GT Berlinetta is the actual car that instituted the ‘Tour de France’ nomenclature following its overall victory at that race in 1956. The announcement of its addition to RM’s Monterey lineup coincides with the release of the company’s complete digital Monterey catalog, now available at www.rmsothebys.com.

“Our Monterey sale continues to raise the bar for collector car auctions year after year, and we’re excited to continue the tradition next month. Our specialists have handpicked a truly outstanding roster of vehicles for this year’s sale, each vetted for its correctness and authenticity – it will certainly be a great showcase of our focus on quality of product and inventiveness of presentation,” said Ian Kelleher, Managing Director, RM Sotheby’s West Coast Division. “We’re thrilled to round out what is certainly our finest Monterey offering to date with a car of such incredible historical significance as the first ‘Tour de France’-winning, Tour de France!”

An estimated crowd of more than 300,000 spectators visited the 10-day festival that culminated with the 33rd annual races staged on the scenic, yet technically challenging circuit at Schenley Park.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) is unique in America, as it’s the only vintage car race staged on public roads amidst the public 456-acre Schenley Park. The 2.33-mile circuit is comprised of 23 turns, complete with two lane roads, bridges with stone walls, curbs, manhole covers and telephone poles. Sports Car Digest’s own Dwight Knowlton led the PVGP parade as Grand Marshal, in addition to creating the stunning poster art for this year’s event.

Maserati Boomerang at Geneva Motor Show

A signature concept car of the 1970s, the Maserati Boomerang was a one-off prototype unlike anything seen before. Using geometric shapes and ruler straight lines, its angular style made a strong statement at the 1971 Turin Motor Show. Now the Boomerang will be offered for sale at the Bonhams Chantilly 2015 auction, scheduled for 5th September at Chantilly Arts and Elegance on the grounds of Château de Chantilly in France.

Philip Kantor, Bonhams European Head of Motoring, said, “The Boomerang was the first car of its time to create such a strong, angular style statement. It’s considered by many to be one of the most remarkable designs of the 20th century and the ‘grandfather’ to the Volkswagen Golf Mk 1. The Boomerang has been shown at many world-class events including exhibitions and Concours d’Elegance such as Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach, and is now offered at Bonhams first ever sale in Chantilly.”

Kicking off at Brooklands on the afternoon of Friday July 10th, a line-up of classic cars assembled overlooking the Mercedes-Benz World track. The line-up was donated by many generous owners and included a host of Ferraris; from a 250 GT SWB Berlinetta to a pair of 365 GTB/4 Daytonas, a 288 GTO and a 550 Barchetta.
