The Gooding and Company Amelia Island 2016 auction will be staged Friday, March 11th at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Florida. Gooding’s 7th annual Amelia sale held during the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance weekend will see more than 80 cars cross the block, with 19 automobiles estimated to exceed $1,000,000.

The Jerry Seinfeld Collection will headline Gooding’s 2016 Amelia Island sale. Among the notable Porsches on offer will be Seinfeld’s 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder; 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder; 1959 Porsche 718 RSK; 1958 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster; 2000 Porsche Carrera GT Prototype; 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR; among 12 others.

“We are grateful and honored to be entrusted with these superb examples from the collection of Jerry Seinfeld, these cars epitomize the highest of quality and pedigree,” stated David Gooding, President of Gooding & Company. “Jerry’s keen eye for significant Porsches, the care and pride he takes in maintaining his spectacular collection and his enthusiasm and passion for the Porsche marque, makes this one of our most thrilling sales in our company’s history.”

The Jerry Seinfeld Collection 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder, chassis 917-30-004, is one of six examples completed at the Porsche factory. 004 was intended to be the 1974 Penske-Sunoco team car but was instead sold to Australian Porsche Importer Alan Hamilton. Later purchased by the Porsche factory, this car was previously the centerpiece of the Drendel Family Collection. This 917/30 has been raced at the Monterey Historics and has been displayed at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and Rennsport Reunion, among others (Estimate: $5,000,000 – $7,000,000).

“What’s very surprising about this car is how comfortable and easy to drive the most powerful race car the world will ever see is,” Mr. Seinfeld said. “I never drove it as fast as it can go. The car’s crazy. I’m not.”

The 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder (Estimate: $5,000,000 – $6,000,000) remains in original condition, wearing its decades-old blue paint and retaining its well-preserved upholstery. With three owners over the past five decades, chassis 550-0060 is a matching-numbers example with 10,500 miles from new.

Not to be overlooked, especially in terms of pre-sale estimates, Gooding’s 2016 Amelia Island sale will also feature a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider and a 1966 Ford GT40 Mk1.

The Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider offered at the 2016 Gooding Amelia Island sale, chassis 2871 GT, is the 22nd short-wheelbase California Spider built and one of 37 covered-headlight examples produced. Chassis 2871 GT was purchased new in Milan, Italy by the Italian industrial designer, Gianfranco Frattini in September, 1961. While in Mr. Frattini’s care, chassis 2871 GT was featured in the Italian film Ieri, Oggi, Domani, which starred Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. Mr. Frattini owned the car for 17 years before selling it to Terzo Dalia in June, 1978. Mr. Dalia participated in two Ferrari events in the early-1980s before selling 2871 GT to the current owner in December, 1985. This Ferrari has been with its current owner for the last 30 years, is well-documented by Ferrari historian, Marcel Massini, and is presented the color combination of red with a black interior (estimate: $15,000,000 – $17,000,000).

The 1966 Ford GT40 Mk1 is one of 31 GT40 Mk I examples constructed for road use, and one of seven originally used by Ford for a dealer promotion program. Chassis GT40 P/1065 was earmarked for “Road Car Specifications,” and came equipped with a Weber-carbureted 289 Hi-Po engine. Offered in the original color of Azure Blue without racing stripes and sporting Halibrand wheels, this 3,200-original mile GT40 was acquired by the consignor in 2010. Marque expert Ronnie Spain has inspected the car and provided a 23-page report outlining the correctness of the car’s specification in relation to new. Additionally, P/1065 received attention from GT40 specialist Rare Drive (Est. $3,200,000 – $3,600,000).
