Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 – Cartier Style et Luxe Concours

July 6, 2010 by Sports Car Digest Leave a Comment

The Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 is a Concours event displayed on the lawn of Goodwood House, far from the ‘noisy’ racing engines booming up the hillclimb. Befitting the larger ‘Viva Veloce’ theme of the Festival, Italian Masterpieces were the focus of this year’s Cartier Style et Luxe Concours.

Unlike a traditional Concours d’Elegance, the judges of the ‘Style et Luxe’ are not car experts but top personalities from the arts. Judging is not a scientific points-scoring process, but a consideration of each car as an object of beauty and practicality.

Top honors in the 2010 Cartier Style et Luxe Concours went to Franco Lombardi’s otherworldly Maserati A6GCS, narrowly beating the Fiat 600 Multipla Marinella of Heather Fattorini which nonetheless won the Beach Bambini class. Voting among the celebrity judges was passionately reasoned, with movie colossus George Lucas wanting the Italdesign Nazca C2 to triumph. This audacious BMW-powered supercar didn’t win the top prize but did at least nab the Far-Fetched Fantasies category. Mark Chowis’ Willment Cobra Coupe came out on top in the La Dolce Vita class while Scott Grundfor took home the silverware for the Riviera Set class with the remarkable Ghia Gilda Streamline X Coupe.
