Goodwood Revival 2011 – Behind the Scenes Photos

The Goodwood Revival 2011 was held 16-18 September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England. A crowd of than 135,000 historic motorsport enthusiasts made their way to Goodwood to celebrate another epic motor racing weekend, the vast majority dressed in period fashions.

On the track a tribute to the legendary racing driver Juan Manuel Fangio – 100 years after this birth – saw a grid of rare and stunning cars associated with his career, including three spectacular Mercedes-Benz racers, plus two Chevrolets brought over from Argentina specifically for the Revival. A handful of drivers that knew and raced with Fangio were also on hand.

The variety of racing machines and quality of motor racing was exceptional throughout the Revival weekend, with many nail-biting races and plenty of thrills – plus a few spills – along the way. Racing highlights included the Fordwater Trophy, which this year was a Jaguar E-type race to mark the 50th anniversary of this legendary sports car. The 1964 semi-lightweight E-type of Jon Minshaw and Martin Stretton took the chequered flag.

The thrilling St. Mary’s Trophy for 1960s saloon cars saw Richard Shaw anchor a brilliant overall win with track victory in Sunday’s second installment of this two-part race in the 1965 BMW 1800 TiSA. Tom Kristensen and Kenny Brack took an emphatic win in the rain in the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Celebration race for GT cars aboard Daniela Ellerbrock’s Shelby Daytona Cobra.

Great racing to be sure, but at the Goodwood Revival that is only half the adventure. Similar to our 2010 Goodwood Revival coverage, photographer Tim Scott of Fluid Images also took “Behind the Scenes” pictures from this year’s Goodwood Revival. He offers the following 300 photos that give an excellent feel for the off-track action, including the period spectator costumes, grid girls, motorcycles parades, military displays and overall camaraderie. 3. I’d love someone to make anywhere near as complimentary a comment about mine, as Karrie has above, – three days of extremely hard graft carrying heavy gear about! So please take a look! Thanks.

  4. Leif Rideout says:

Nice work – curious to know the connection between Goodwood and the Capitola train trestle…

  5. steve snyder says:

I am surprised there is not a group photo of the Fangio cars.

  6. Well spotted – Capitola crept in by accident ! Its where I go every year after the craziness of Monterey week – perfect for R & R.

    Regards,

    Tim

Thank you so much for all the photos of this past years Goodwood Revival 2011.
I especially enjoyed a fierce model on Page 5 photo 87/300.

She’s a true beauty, she appears to handle well in tight turns and I’m sure can excel
on a long straight-a-way. With such beautifully styled body lines I’m sure she’ll be a fan favorite.
