Goodwood Revival 2011 – Sussex Trophy Race

Aston Martin DBR1 - Goodwood Revival 2011

The Sussex Trophy race at the 2011 Goodwood Revival was held 16-18 September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.

The 2011 Sussex Trophy race featured World Championship sports cars and production sports racing cars from 1955 to 1960. The likes of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lister and Maserati are perfectly suited to Goodwood’s fast, sweeping curves.

Alex Buncombe put on a bravura display of car control on a damp track to take Sussex Trophy honours in the final race of the 2011 Goodwood Revival meeting. The big-banger 1950s sports-racing cars tip-toed around on the opening lap as each driver struggled to put the power down, tyre dealer Julian Majzub making a lightning start from the front row in his brutish Sadler only to tumble down the order once Alex Buncombe made his presence felt. The Lister-Jaguar driver took the lead before the end of the first lap and was never headed.

Former touring car ace Anthony Reid moved into second at the dip before Lavant on the second lap only to lose out to Bobby Verdon-Roe’s Aston Martin DBR1 almost immediately. The top three positions remained unchanged to the end, Buncombe emerging a worthy winner by nine seconds with Reid a further ten seconds behind Verdon-Roe.
