Le Mans Legends Returns to Circuit de la Sarthe in 2011

Jaguar D Type at Le MansLe Mans Legends returns to Circuit de la Sarthe in 2011, mere hours from the start of the modern 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Motor Racing Legends will field the Le Mans Legend 2011 historic support race for cars that were eligible for Le Mans from 1949 to 1965 – which covers everything from Aston Martin DB2, Austin-Healeys, C-type and D-type Jaguars, right through to the familiar archetypes of the 1960s: front- and mid-engined Ferraris, Morgans and MGBs, plus a vast array of other icons from this evocative era. (To keep the racing close and competitive, however, the grid will not include Ford GT40s.)
Duncan Wiltshire of Motor Racing Legends said, “The 1950s and early ’60s is, for many people, perhaps the most emotionally charged period of motor racing history – a genuine golden era, when the cars were not only beautiful, but also highly distinctive and instantly recognisable. For spectators (and there are some 230,000 at the Le Mans weekend), this makes the racing even more enthralling, as you don’t need a wealth of historical knowledge to get excited by the sight of a Ferrari 250LM or Jaguar D-type flat-out on a race track.”
The 45-minute Le Mans Legend race, for either one or two drivers, will take place on the full 8.5-mile Le Mans circuit on the morning of Saturday 11th June 2011, a few hours before the start of the modern 24 Hours.
