McLaren F1 GTR at 2014 Gooding Scottsdale

A 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail will headline the 2014 Gooding & Company Scottsdale Auction, scheduled for January 17-18 at the Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, Arizona. The sale starts at 11 a.m. each day.

David Gooding, President and founder of Gooding & Company, said, “We have a celebrated history of offering unique, rare to market McLaren cars. During our Pebble Beach Auctions in 2013, Gooding & Company set a world auction record for the McLaren marque with the sale of a 1997 F1 for $8,470,000. We look forward to continuing the tradition of success at our Scottsdale Auctions.”

McLaren F1 street cars rarely appear for public sale and competition models like chassis 021R are even more notable. The car offered at Gooding Scottsdale 2014 was the first GTR Longtail race winner with accolades including wins at Hockenheim and Helsinki, as well as several other podium finishes. This car was campaigned by the Works BMW Motorsport Team and raced by star drivers J.J. Lehto and Steve Soper. The GTR Longtail is consigned from a significant private collection in its original factory-delivered form with iconic FINA livery. With limited owners from new, this GTR Longtail will arrive at auction having been restored by McLaren and maintained by Lanzante Ltd. Chassis 021R carries a pre-sale estimate of $5,000,000 to $7,000,000.

Additional high performance factory race and road cars that will be offered during the 2014 Scottsdale Auctions include a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO (estimate: $1,250,000-1,600,000), a 1973 Alpine A110 1800 (estimate: $300,000-400,000) and a 1980 BMW M1 (estimate: $400,000-500,000), among others.
