The Portland Historic Races 2012 were contested July 6th – 8th at the 12-turn, 1.967 mile Portland International Raceway in Oregon.

Produced and sanctioned by Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA), the 36th annual Historics celebrated the 50th anniversary of the MGB. In addition to the honored marque MGB, the Portland Historics also featured a special race group for the Formula 1 cars from the 1970s and 1980s.

Marques such as Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, Alfa and Cobra were also raced and on display over the weekend.

The 2012 Portland Historic Races featured approximately 200 historic race cars, representing a wide variety of manufacturers. Notable entries included Cameron Healy’s Cooper ‘Pooper’ Porsche and Porsche 908/3; McLaren M8FP of Wade Carter; Steve Walker’s Jagermeister-liveried 1973 BMW CSL; the Hatch Park Special of John Miller; Paul Ingram’s 1965 Ladybird Special; the 1968 McLaren M6B campaigned by Bob Lee; Doug Mockett’s 1961 Cooper T56 and 1978 Wolf WR6 F1; the always-quick Bud Moeller and his 1979 Ensign N-179; Butch Gilbert’s 1958 Hagemann Sutton Special; the 1957 Elva Mk.1 of Robert Engberg; among others.

The open paddock at the Portland Historics allowed spectators a close-up look at cars they may have only seen in books while drivers and crew members answer questions and sign autographs. All car corral participants were given a lap of the track as well as a chance to compete in the infield autocross.
