The second annual Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance was held at the grounds of the famous Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 31st.
The 2008 Rocky Mountain Concours highlighted the achievements of racing’s Unser family with a special Unser Racing Museum tent displaying some of the Unser’s historic Pikes Peak Hillclimb cars amidst the show field of 120 automobiles. Among the 60 motorcycle concours entries, Vincent motorbikes also received special recognition with a wide-ranging display of the British company’s 1928-1955 history.
Rocky Mountain Concours Chairman Daniel Kane observed, “Our second year event attendance more than doubled over that at our inaugural show. All day long, everywhere I looked, all I saw were people – lots of people. There were admiring the entries on our show field, visiting with Bobby and Al Unser, exploring the offerings in the Art Grotto, and sampling the tasty morsels created and offered by the Viking barbeque demonstration chefs. It was a wonderful day and weekend.”
The Rocky Mountain Concours awarded prizes in 20 automobile and 8 motorcycle classes, plus in numerous special award categories. The Best of Show Automobile went to a 1906 National owned by John Rich of Pennsylvania, while the Best of Show Motorcycle was awarded to a 1930 Indian 4 owned by Colorado Springs’ Ross Van Etten and the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum.
