Rolls-Royce Auction Results – Bonhams

Bonhams’ sale is always a key part of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club Annual Rally and this year once again the saleroom was packed with collectors and enthusiasts from far and wide. Almost 90% of all lots sold, and with very good depth of bidding on the more valuable cars, prices achieved were strong, as illustrated by the top five lots:

• 1919/20 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Alpine Eagle – sold £170,900 (estimate £140,000 – 160,000)
• 1921 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost 40/50hp Silver Ghost Salamanca Cabriolet – sold £100,500 (estimate £80,000 – 100,000)
• 1963 Bentley S3 Continental Flying Spur Saloon – sold £67,500 (estimate £65,000 – 70,000)
• The ex-Earls Court Motor Show, 1962 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Touring Limousine – sold £65,300 (estimate 58,000 – 65,000)
• First registered to Sir Malcolm Campbell, 1926 Rolls-Royce 20hp Tourer – sold £54,300 (estimate £50,000 – 60,000)

Other noteworthy results included the 1961 Bentley S2 Saloon, owned for five years by the first James Bond, Sean Connery, which sold for £17,825.

A Louis Vuitton trunk, formerly the property of flamboyant playboy Nubar Sarkis Gulbenkian (1892 – 1972), estimate £300 – 500, was ‘must-have’ item of the day, selling for the price of a trip around the world at £4,600.
