The 2013 Spokane Festival of Speed was held June 1-2 at the 2.3-mile Spokane County Raceway in Airway Heights, Washington.
Wheel-to-wheel, or fender-to-fender, the 2013 Spokane Festival of Speed was filled with spirited competition on the fast and mostly flat track. Long straight runs, with high-speed and hairpin turns, tested the skill and mettle of drivers, while offering thrilling views for the spectators. The weather Saturday was bright sky and pleasant temperatures, but the sky turned into a shower head on Sunday, reducing most of the scheduled racing.
This year’s “Porsche of Spokane Historics” celebrated open-wheel racing, and spectators were entertained by Formula Vs, Formula Bs and Formula Fords. It seemed especially fitting that the celebrity driver was Tony Adamowicz, an icon with plenty of single-seater racing success to honor. Another celebrity present was the 1935 Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3 of Peter Giddings.
The 3rd annual Spokane Historic Races were sanctioned by SOVREN, the Society of Vintage Race Enthusiasts. The event is sponsored by Porsche of Spokane and the Kalispel Tribe Quest Resort and Casino. The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation received proceeds from spectator admissions and donations during this weekend of racing. SOVREN sanctions this race as one of its six major events each year from which it has contributed over eight million dollars to the Seattle Children’s Hospital.
