SVRA to Celebrate 30th Anniversary at Road Atlanta

SVRA Atlanta Vintage Grand PrixSVRA’s first outing as an organization was as a support race for the Can-Am at Road Atlanta in September of 1980. Seventeen cars attended that inaugural event, with exotics such as Jim Roger’s Ferrari Testa Rossa and Howard Turner’s Lister Jaguar among the cars taking to the track. In 1981 the car count had swelled to 110 and the event was now a stand alone vintage weekend. This October SVRA will honor the thirtieth anniversary of that first race at the “Road Atlanta Season Finale” October 14-17, 2010.

The insight and dedication of these pioneers thirty years ago has let SVRA grow into the leading vintage and historic organization east of the Mississippi river. The organization is inviting these pioneers to join them for the thirtieth and to share their memories about the early days of racing with SVRA. It will be a great opportunity to share memories, greet old acquaintances, and partake of anniversary cake. Festivities will take place Sunday morning during “quiet time,” but early members are welcome to arrive early and mingle all weekend.

The cars, and the faces may have changed over the years, but the spirit of Safe, Fair Fun initiated by the founders is still strong in SVRA. For more information, visit www.svra.com.
