Bonhams Paris Sale 2012 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its flagship Paris auction on Thursday 2 February 2012 at La Halle Freyssinet in Paris, resulting in total sales of €7,198,038 and a 62% sell-through rate.

Bonhams offered over 100 cars and 35 motorcycles, including three private collections, with top sale going to the 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Coupe that sold for €1,012,000.

Bonhams Paris Sale 2012 – Auction Preview

Bonhams will hold its flagship Paris auction on Thursday 2 February 2012 at La Halle Freyssinet in Paris. Over 100 cars and 35 motorcycles, including several French-built cars and three private collections, are to be sold at the auction.

Initially scheduled for 1 February 2012, Bonhams decided to move its sale to Thursday 2 February, after a competitor cancelled its sale on that day. Bonhams believes that the move to Thursday 2 February will facilitate buying opportunities for those attending the car auctions in Paris.

Bonhams Scottsdale 2012 – Auction Results

The inaugural Bonhams Scottsdale auction was staged January 19th, 2012 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, resulting in $5.7 million in sales and a 60% sell-through rate.

Bonhams assembled 67 automobiles for their first Arizona Auction Week sale, with a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet C taking home the top result at $667,000.

Bonhams Scottsdale 2012 – Auction Preview

The inaugural Bonhams Scottsdale auction will be held January 19th, 2012 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Bonhams assembled approximately 65 automobiles for their first foray into Arizona Auction Week, headlined by the 1967 Porsche 906E Racing Coupe, 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 Torpedo Tourer, 1932 Packard Model 904 Custom Convertible Victoria with coachwork by Dietrich and Marlene Dietrich’s former 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Transformable Convertible Sedan.

Daniels Collection at Bonhams Goodwood 2012

The George Daniels Collection of motorcars and motorcycles will headline the 2012 Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed auction, scheduled for Friday 29th June on the Tapestry Lawn at Goodwood House in Chichester, Sussex. The seven automobiles and two motorcycles consigned to the Bonhams Goodwood sale are expected to realise in excess of £8,000,000.

George Daniels CBE, DSc, FBHI, FSA (1926-2011) was one of the few modern watchmakers who could conceive, design and hand-make a complete watch from blank sheet of paper to finished, ticking, utterly supreme timepiece. Daniels is perhaps most famous for creating the co-axial escapement (the device that drives a timekeeping mechanism) which has been described as the most important horological development for 250 years.

Bonhams Mercedes-Benz World 2011 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its Motor Cars and Automobilia auction on 1 December 2011 at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey, England, resulting in total sales in excess of £3,000,000.

Top sale at the 2011 Bonhams Mercedes-Benz World auction went to an unrestored works racing team 1953 Austin-Healey ’100′ Special Test Car that sold for a world record £843,000.

Bonhams London to Brighton 2011 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its annual 2011 Veteran Motor Cars and related Automobilia on Friday November 4th at their London saleroom, launching the weekend of the historic London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

The Bonhams London to Brighton 2011 auction saw 147 lots on offer, including eight veteran cars (four that were entered into the 2011 London to Brighton run).

Bonhams Fairfield Concours 2011 – Auction Report

Bonhams returned to the Fairfield Concours d’Elegance for its second year and, in common with the concours, expanded to two days with an opening day sale of automobilia and Rolls-Royce and Bentley parts from the estate of Bob Jefferson.

One of the Fairfield Concours special classes was barn finds and one of the class highlights was the Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux Coupe which headlined Bonhams’ auction on Sunday.

Bonhams Quail Lodge 2011 – Auction Report

The Bonhams Quail Lodge auction during Monterey Week, August 18-19, 2011, was marked by several important transactions.

The sale’s top one, the BMW 507 for just over $1 million (with commission) was particularly noteworthy. It was almost exactly the same price RM got for its 507, yet they were very different cars. Bonhams’ example was, as described below, very attractively restored while RM’s was very original, illustrating the appeal of extremes in car collecting and collectors’ evaluation of their diametrically opposed attributes in nearly equivalent terms.

Bonhams Goodwood Revival 2011 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its 2011 Goodwood Revival auction on 16 September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England, resulting in total sales of more than £6.5 million.

Top sale at the 2011 Bonhams Goodwood Revival auction went to the 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder with coachwork by Pininfarina – one of only 25 of European specification – that sold for £595,500.

Bonhams Beaulieu Autojumble 2011 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its Beaulieu Autojumble auction on 10 September 2011 at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK, resulting in total sales of £2.8 million with 93% sold by lot and 92% sold by value.

Bonhams reported that British buyers had to feverishly compete with a contingent of Continental and Inter-Continental bidders, with no less than sixty motor cars and motorcycles going to overseas clients including the US, New Zealand and a number of Middle Eastern countries.

Bonhams Adds Arizona Auction to 2012 Calendar

Bonhams will throw their hat into the Arizona Auction Week ring in 2012, joining RM Auctions, Gooding and Company, Barrett-Jackson, Russo and Steele and others. The new Bonhams auction will be held January 19th, 2012 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Bonhams announced early consignments for their inaugural Arizona auction, including a fully-restored 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 Torpedo Tourer, 1932 Packard Model 904 Custom Convertible Victoria with coachwork by Dietrich and Marlene Dietrich’s former 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Transformable Convertible Sedan.

Headline Cars at Bonhams Goodwood Revival 2011

Bonhams announced two headline consignments for its upcoming Collectors’ Motor Cars and Automobilia auction at the Goodwood Revival Meeting on 16 September, 2011.

In the 50th anniversary year of the E-Type Jaguar, these two consignments are the ex-Sir Robert Ropner ‘Semi-Lightweight’ E-Type plus the ex-Briggs Cunningham Team 1958 Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’ sports-racing car.

While the ‘Semi-Lightweight’ E-Type is one of only two built by the Jaguar factory, the Cunningham team car – which was driven in period by American road racing superstars Walt Hansgen and Ed Crawford – is billed as one of the finest of all surviving Lister-Jaguars.

Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed Auction Report – July 1, 2011

Goodwood is good for Bonhams … and the other way ‘round.

With 95 cars crossing the block and 84 sold, Bonhams turned in a stellar 88.4% sale rate and $11,635,152 in total transactions.

Nineteen cars sold at or above their high estimate, 22.6% of the cars and the hammer bids on sold lots were 113% of the low estimates, both outstanding numbers that indicate a strong market running ahead even of the professional opinions of Bonhams’ specialists.

Racing Porsches at Bonhams Quail Sale 2011

A selection of Porsche race cars will be featured at the 14th annual Bonhams Quail Lodge auction, held August 18-19, 2011 in Carmel, California.

Last year at Quail Lodge Bonhams set a world record for any Porsche sold at auction when the 1972 917 Interserie Spyder (1970 Gulf-JWA Le Mans 917K Coupe) sold for nearly $4 million. Similar to the 2010 sale, Bonhams has assembled a strong collection of competition Porsches for their upcoming sale.

Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ Prototipo Berlinetta – Profile

In response to Alfa Romeo’s request for a TZ successor, Autodelta’s co-founder Lodovico Chizzola built this prototype, only for Alfa Romeo to opt for its own design – the TZ2 – so the car remained a one-off. After completion this unique Alfa Romeo remained the Chizzola family’s property until it was bought by the current vendor at Bonhams’ Nürburgring Sale in August 2000.

Known in the Chizzola family as the ‘TZ1½’, the car is a development of the original TZ. The un-numbered chassis is a one-of-a-kind tubular design – a modified Ferrari F2 frame according to the late Lodovico Chizzola – but shorter and different to a TZ’s.

Bonhams has gathered a selection of 100 automobiles for the 19th annual Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale, headlined by the ex-Innes Ireland 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Cabriolet, ex-Paul McCartney 1967 Lamborghini 400GT and 1925 Bugatti Type 35B Grand Prix, among other sports, touring and competition cars.
