Pebble Beach Concours 2012 Information

The 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be held Sunday, August 19th on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.

The 62nd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has begun the search for 200 of the finest automobiles and motorcycles. Features for the 2012 event include Maharaja Cars and the marques of Mercer and Fiat. Special classes will recognize Saoutchik Coachwork, AC and AC Cobra, Sport Customs, and German motorcycles.

A Memorable Pebble Beach Concours 2011

My pilgrimage to Pebble Beach this year was memorable for many reasons. My purpose in attending was to shoot footage of the Ferrari 250 GTOs that would be the feature attraction–for me, at least–of the event for inclusion in my on-going GTO documentary. The cars looked great and each of them was recognizable by their distinguishing detail differences unlike another Ferrari 250 GTO I visited recently.

On Saturday, I toured the Gooding tent and photographed those cars to be auctioned that most interested me. A certain Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa caught my eye as did a 250 SWB Berlinetta and quite a few other makes and models that are the stuff of dreams. Later that night, I walked along Ocean Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea which was like cruising night on Van Nuys Boulevard on steroids.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 – Picture Gallery

The 2011 edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance was, as always, held the third Sunday of August on the majestic 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.

The 61st edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance honored Mercedes-Benz and 125 years of the Automobile, Stutz Centennial, 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GTO, Edwardian Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts and Italian Motorcycles.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 – Best of Show

A 1934 Voisin C-25 Aerodyne owned by Peter and Merle Mullin from Los Angeles was named Best of Show at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held Sunday, August 21st on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Competitors from 30 states, the District of Columbia, 14 countries and the principality of Monaco brought their prized automotive possessions to California’s Monterey Peninsula for judging in 29 classes in the 61st annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In the end, the French-made Voisin was judged the best, a particularly gratifying achievement for Peter Mullin, a self-described “French car guy.”

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 was held Sunday, August 21st at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California. More than 200 cars and motorcycles lined the 18th hole of the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links for the 61st annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, with a total of 29 classes in 2011 including feature and special classes.

Mercedes-Benz, a featured marque at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, had the largest overall presence on the show field, but the crowds were most captivated by the stunning display of the more than 20 Ferrari 250 GTO entrants. In addition to honoring the 125th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz and the 50th anniversary of the GTO, the event also celebrated the Stutz Centennial, Edwardian Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts and Italian Motorcycles.

The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance 2011 was held Thursday, August 18th, starting and ending at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach, California. The annual scenic 60-mile trip around the Monterey Peninsula, held in association with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, is open to vehicles that are participating in the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday, August 21st. This year saw over 150 historic automobiles from 13 different countries take off from Pebble Beach for a tour of the region’s scenic driving routes.

Initiated to showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion, the Tour also underscores the early history of the place that is Pebble Beach. Decades before golf links were laid out along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this area was known for its scenic drive, winding for miles through pine and cypress forest, dancing alongside dramatic cliffs and leading, ultimately, to a beautiful crescent-shaped bay.

Mercedes-Benz Honored at Pebble Beach Concours 2011

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the automobile by showcasing the marques that trace their lineage to Benz and Daimler, with particular attention to Mercedes-Benz. The August 21, 2011 celebration on the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach Golf Links will chronicle early racing greats, coachbuilt classics, and preservation cars.

The birth of the automobile is marked by Carl Benz’ patent of the first gas-powered vehicle, a three-wheeler, in January 1886. Gottlieb Daimler followed with a four-wheeler just a few months later, beginning the competition to create cars with more speed and style.

Pebble Beach Concours 2011 – Ferrari 250 GTO Featured

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GTO with more than twenty of these sports racing cars taking to the show field on Sunday, August 21.

Only thirty-six 250 GTOs were originally produced, as well as two 330 GTOs with larger capacity engines. All of these cars have been invited to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011 and more than half have already accepted the invitation. Some of these GTOs have sold for as much as $30 million in recent years.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010 – Cars of Alfa Romeo

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010 paid tribute to all that is Alfa Romeo, celebrating the centennial of the Italian auto manufacturer founded as Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. The Pebble Beach Concours gathering along Carmel Bay showcased vehicles ranging from a 1910 A.L.F.A. 24 HP to the just-unveiled Alfa Romeo Pandion show car created by Bertone to mark the centennial, and it also included a display of rarely seen cars from the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo (the Alfa Romeo Museum) in Arese, Italy.

“Alfa Romeos have gained prominence in recent years and are treasured by enthusiasts and loved as true driving machines,” said Sandra Button, chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. “We’re pleased to have assembled such a significant group of Alfas for this year’s Concours, amazing vehicles crafted by gifted engineers and designers that have helped shape 20th century automotive technology and racing history.”

Charitable Contributions at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010

The 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance raised more than $1 million for charity for the fifth consecutive year, bringing the total of charitable donations throughout the event’s history to more than $14 million. Primary Concours charities include United Way Monterey County, Pebble Beach Company Foundation, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County.

The 60th annual event, conducted Aug. 15 at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, also included an Opportunity Drawing that ended in spectacular fashion with a generous impromptu offer by The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, who invited the audience to tour his garage and attend The Tonight Show for an on-the-spot donation of $1,000 to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County. Spectators flooded the stage, raising more than $50,000.

Special Classes at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2011

The 61st Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.

In 2011 five special categories will headline the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance:

• Mercedes-Benz and 125 years of the Automobile
• Stutz Centennial (Call this one “’The car that made good in a day’, turns 100.”)
• Ferrari 250 GTO
• Edwardian Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts
• Italian Motorcycles

In addition to throwing the car collecting and restoration communities into high gear and triggering a tizzy of activity to find and prepare appropriate vehicles it initiates a frantic rush to prepare applications that tickle the fancy of the Pebble Beach selection committees.

Gooding & Company Pebble Beach 2010 – Auction Report

Gooding and Company held its 2010 Pebble Beach sale on August 14th and 15th at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach, California.

David Gooding assumed the Pebble Beach Auction mantle six years ago, to the day, in fact, on August 15, 2004. He brought Charlie Ross over from the UK to call the sale, and they meshed on the block to an unprecedented degree. Charlie’s clear, concise, distinct presentation identified every bid with precision. David’s rapport with his bidders personalized the process. It was a revelation.

Six years later the auction is much different. It’s two days instead of one and the consignment is laden with million dollar cars, but the presentation has lost none of its exceptional immediacy, clarity and personality.

Concept Cars Unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours 2010

Before viewing any of the 250-plus classic cars, race machines and motorcycles exhibited at the 60th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tonight Show host Jay Leno stopped by the event’s concept vehicle and new car display.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is becoming a showcase for all the latest offerings from manufacturers. A total of 12 concepts and new cars were unveiled at the 2010 event;

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010 – Best of Show Winner

A 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster owned by The Patterson Collection in Louisville, Kentucky, was named Best of Show at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance held Sunday, August 15th on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Additionally, proceeds from raffles, auctions, sponsorships and ticket sales helped contribute more than $1 million to charity for the fifth consecutive year.

“There are so many things about this car that are special,” said owner Jim Patterson, who founded Long John Silver’s restaurant and contributed to the founding of the Rally’s Hamburger chain. “We’ve won (with other cars) at a lot of concours, but never here. This win at Pebble is the ultimate. This is the one win that really matters.”

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010 was held Sunday, August 15th at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California. More than 250 cars and motorcycles lined the 18th hole of Pebble Beach Golf Links for the 60th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, with a total of 29 classes in 2010 including feature and special classes.

Alfa Romeo, a featured marque at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, had the largest presence on the show field, including seven vehicles shipped from the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, Italy. The 75th anniversary of Jaguar was also featured, as was Pierce-Arrow.

The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance 2010 presented by Rolex is an annual scenic 60-mile trip around the Monterey Peninsula in association with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Held Thursday, August 12th, the Tour d’Elegance is for vehicles that will participate in the Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday, August 15.

The Tour d’Elegance traces portions of the original 17-Mile Drive, traverses nearby mountains and valleys, dips down famed Highway One to Big Sir, and pauses for lunch in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Gooding & Company Pebble Beach 2010 – Auction Preview

Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction 2010 will be held Saturday, August 14th and Sunday, August, 15th at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach, California. Gooding & Company’s 6th annual auction, held in association with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, will feature 135 cars, including 17 estimated to reach bids in excess of $1,000,000.

Born in the Depression, Restored in a Recession, Delage D8S Gives New Meaning to Elegance

In perhaps the strangest paradox of the 1930s, as the worst depression the world had ever known was putting millions out of work, extraordinary design still flourished. Bauhaus architecture by the likes of Mies van der Rohe and LeCorbusier gave us functional homes described as “machines for living.” Art Deco and Arte Moderne set new standards of interior decor, then influenced everything from streamlined railway locomotives to dishware. And in the midst of that design revolution, some of the most elegant motor cars ever produced came from the genius of innovative stylists and their custom bodymakers.

For sheer glamour, few could have matched the 1933 Delage D8S Roadster with coachwork by DeVillars.

Pebble Beach Concours 2010 – Ferrari 250 GT SWB Honored

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2010 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheelbase Berlinetta by displaying eight SWBs on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Racing great Sir Stirling Moss, who serves among the Honorary Judges at the Pebble Beach Concours, is eager to see these cars take to the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. He drove a 250 GT SWB Berlinetta to four victories on racing circuits across Europe in 1961 and has high praise for the model: “It was beautiful to drive, reliable and stunning to look at.

Legendary Streamliner at Pebble Beach Concours 2010

Name the fastest single engine car in America in 1952? Or how about the most extensively wind tunnel tested car in America up until that time? Next question – Name the car that put Art Chrisman into the 200 MPH Club? Still thinking? How about naming the first Bonneville streamliner built piece by piece from the wheelchair of a man stricken with polio? The answer to all of the above was captured on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine in 1952; Chet Herbert’s Beast III Streamliner. This summer the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance will feature the return of this great car following 55 years in hibernation.
