Mark Walker - 1905 Darraq 200hpThe Prescott Speed Hill Climb 2010 is the crown jewel in annual Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) calendar, as 250 Pre-war Sports and Racing cars were in action 7-8 August at the historic hill climb venue in Gloucestershire, England.

VSCC calls the Prescott Hill Climb its ultimate weekend; there is no other event that sums up the ethos of the Vintage Sports-Car Club because of the relaxed atmosphere, superb cars, hard competition, great company and a superb location.

The field of 250 cars is in action all weekend at Prescott Hill Climb, in addition to display of significant Alfa Romeos in honor of their centenary. Split into 16 Classes you will see a wide representation of the Pre-war era from the amenable Austin 7s to fierce Single Seater ERAs and ‘Vintage Specials’. The format is quite simple: Saturday is practice day; each car is given two runs up the hill, one in the morning, the second in the afternoon. On Sunday competitors make their official timed runs which count towards overall placings, with one run in the morning and another in the afternoon.

The Prescott Hill Climb, based just outside of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, rises over 200 feet via short straights, fast and slow corners and a breathtaking hairpin, with the fastest modern racing cars completing the course in an exciting 36 seconds.

Mark Walker was hotly tipped to break the Edwardian Record in his 1905 Darraq 200hp. Having recently completed an extensive restoration of the car he is enjoying his first summer of competition behind the wheel of the Land Speed Record breaking car. His first climb of the 880 yard course on Sunday morning in a time of 47.96 seconds saw him significantly displace the existing record from 2003 of 51.76 seconds.

James Baxter took home the coveted Mays Berthon Trophy for ‘Fastest Time of the Day’ with a lightning-quick run of 40.81 seconds in his 1934 Frazer Nash Single Seater, breaking the 1997 record set by none other than Mark Walker in the Parker GN of 41.40 seconds.
