The 2008 Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races will host an acrobatic air show in conjunction with the vintage racing event held at Virginia International Raceway on June 6-8.
“Wings & Wheels” will be an automotive festival of Street Rods, Classic Muscle Cars, Motorcycles and Sports Cars combined with an Air Show and Acrobatic Aircraft with some of the finest aerobatic performers in North America.
Additionally, Virginia International Raceway announced Lee Holman will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2008 Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races.
With a career starting in 1957, when he took an inventory of Ford racing parts, Lee Holman is the son of the late John Holman, one of the co-founders of the famed Holman Moody organization. Holman Moody served as the racing arm of Ford Motor Company in the 1950s and ’60s, playing a major role in the building era of NASCAR, revolutionizing the art of building stock-cars and creating many safety features. The Holman Moody NASCAR team employed such famous drivers as Fred Lorenzen, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt, and many more.
Holman Moody built and raced the famous Le Mans-winning GT-40 Mark IIs and many other special Ford-powered racing cars, including Falcon rally cars, the Honker II Can-Am car, special road-racing Fairlanes and Falcons, plus A/FX Mustang drag-racing cars.
Virginia International Raceway, described by Paul Newman as “Heaven on Earth,” is a destination for motorsports enthusiasts of all types and is recognized as one of America’s elite road courses.
