1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta "Sharknose" Speciale by Bertone
1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta \"Sharknose\" Speciale by Bertone

A 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta “Sharknose” Speciale with coachwork by Bertone and a 1934 Packard Twelve 1108 Sport Sedan with coachwork by Dietrich will be offered at the Gooding Pebble Beach 2015 auction, to be held August 15-16 in Pebble Beach, California during the Monterey Classic Car Week.

Gooding & Company said the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Speciale is “quite possibly the most important 250 GT SWB ever to be presented at public auction.”Chassis 3269 GT was built for and personally owned by Nuccio Bertone to showcase his company at the Geneva and Torino Auto Shows in 1962. Estimated to sell for $14,000,000 – $16,000,000, this unique Ferrari was one of the first cars penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro, while working for Nuccio Bertone. The two worked together to create a design inspired by the world championship-winning Grand Prix car – the Ferrari 156 F1. Giugiaro’s exterior design paid homage to the 156 F1 with the distinct “sharknose” front-end treatment. The interior was pure Bertone, finished in burgundy leather hides with a dashboard matching the exterior color – Blu Notte Metallizzato. This “Sharknose” SWB will be offered for the first time at public auction, having been the jewel in the Lorenzo Zambrano collection for over 30 years.

The 1934 Packard Twelve 1108 Sport Sedan on offer at the Gooding and Company Pebble Beach 2015 sale was discovered by collector J.B. Nethercutt. One of three examples known to exist, it is unique among them as the sole example featuring a polished belt molding that runs the length of its coachwork. The Packard has been a fixture in the collections of William F. Harrah, Bob Bahre, and Lee Herrington. It has won numerous awards, including Best of Show honors at the 2009 Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance (Estimate $2,000,000 – $3,000,000).
