Headline Entries at Windsor Castle Concours 2012

1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 LM Spyder, 24 Hours of Le Mans WinnerThe Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance will be staged September 7-9, 2012, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. With full permission of Her Majesty The Queen, the event will take place within the inner courtyard inside the walls of Windsor Castle.

Several significant cars will be making their public ‘debut’ at the Concours, headlined by the 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 LM Spyder (1934 Le Mans Winner) No.9 as driven by Philippe ‘Phi Phi’ Étancelin and Luigi Chinetti. This car has not been seen in public for 50 years.

It is one of four Alfa 8C’s coming, along with a 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Zagato Spider; a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Corto Touring Spider; and a 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta. Each of these 8C’s is totally unique and unlike each other.

Also debuting at the 2012 Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance is a 1929 Mercedes-Benz SSK Corsica: this British coachbuilt car, coming from Germany, was originally black and lived in the UK. The owner, on hearing his car had been accepted for the Windsor Castle Concours, decided to return it to its original black having been white for a number of years.

And last, but by no means least, The Prince of Wales’ 1969 Aston Martin Volante DB6 MKII will take to the stage. Last seen leaving The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding reception last year, this famous car is one of the rarest and most sought-after Aston Martins; only a handful of these desirable convertibles were ever made.

Also on display will be three former Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance “Best of Show’ winners, including at 1931 Daimler Double-Six 50 Corsica Drophead Coupé (Best of Show 2006),
1933 Delage D8S de Villars Roadster (Best of Show 2010) and the 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta (Best of Show 2008).

The Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance is much more than just a display of rare historic cars. It’s an event where classic car owners can truly be part of the show too.

Nearly all of the cars in the Concours are being driven into the Castle by their owners on the opening day – Friday, September 7. In addition, 60 cars will arrive on the Royal Automobile Club’s “Best of British” Tour on Saturday, September 8; and a further 60 cars – one from each year of HM The Queen’s reign – are coming as part of the Octane Jubilee Tour on Sunday, September 9.

And if that wasn’t enough, numerous Owners’ Clubs are planning to bring their top 60 examples too. Everyone from Aston Martin to Bentley, Jaguar to Ferrari will be joining the party with special displays along the Castle’s Long Walk.
