The Elegance at Hershey 2013 Information

The Elegance at Hershey 2013 will be staged June 14-16 at the historic Hotel Hershey in Pennsylvania. The Elegance is a series of antique and vintage lifestyle events for charity that include two-days of vintage race car competition, a cocktail party and dinner and the main event, a Concours d’Elegance in the formal gardens at the Hotel Hershey.

The highlight of the Fathers’ Day weekend of family-friendly events centered at the Hotel Hershey is “The Elegance” on Sunday, June 16th.

This unique automobile show in a garden party setting, brings together more than 60 of the world’s rarest collector cars from all eras displayed through the formal gardens behind the Hotel Hershey. In the tradition of the finest Concours originating in Europe, the event is a judged show field.

Tickets to the 2013 Elegance Concours on Sunday, June 16th are just $25, with children 15 and under free and free parking at the entrance road to the Hotel Hershey.

“This year we will again feature cars from throughout history, all of which are in private collections or museums, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see some of the world’s most beautiful automobile art assembled together at one intimate venue”, noted Mark Lizewskie, Executive Director of the AACA Museum and a member of the Elegance at Hershey Board.

With a show field limited to no more than 60 automobiles, the Elegance strives to present some of the finest cars from every era. For example, attendees will have an opportunity to see a 1928 Gardner 85 Sports Roadster. One of an estimated 800 produced, the car coming to the Elegance is only model said to still exist.

Also on display is a rare 1933 Duesenberg SJ Beverly Sedan, an and authentic example of an enclosed Duesenberg with only five enclosed SJ’s ever made. The car has retained its original body and engine and its entire history is documented.

Later model aficionados will not be disappointed, as the 2013 Elegance at Hershey displays a 1959 Ferrari Cabriolet by Pininfarina. One of only 40 built, the car was originally owned by Georges Filipinetti, of Geneva, Switzerland, founder of Scuderia Filipinetti, the renowned racing team of the 1960s.

The weekend will again include the Grand Ascent, a two-day revival of the famed Hershey Hill climb featuring more than 50 vintage race cars. The VSCCA-sanctioned event on Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15 affords vintage race car fans an opportunity to experience hill climb racing “up close and personal” with open pits, special viewing areas and celebrity rides on the famed original Hershey Hill Climb course.

Shuttle bus service to and from special spectator areas, a vendors midway, unique car displays and food concessions are all part of the Grand Ascent. Tickets to the hill climb are just $10 per day, with ages 15 and under free and free parking is provided. Entrance to the Grand Ascent is located at Boathouse Road, off Route 39, 100 yards north of the intersection with Hersheypark Drive.

The Elegance dinner and silent auction at the Hotel Hershey on Saturday, June 15th is themed “French Curves – a Tribute to Le Mans”. Always a sell-out, the Elegance Dinner includes French wines, cuisine, special desserts and entertainment. Advance reservation for the dinner at $200 per person can be made by calling the Elegance office at 717-534-1910.

Additionally, Wayne Carini, host of “Chasing Classic Cars” on Discovery’s Velocity HD Channel, will serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2013 Elegance at Hershey. Carini will compete in the Grand Ascent hill climb and will also be on hand to help host the Elegance Concours.

In 2012 Carini piloted a rare Bill Rutan 1958 Porsche Special up the challenging Hershey hill climb course in less than 60 seconds, coming in second overall. Now its owner, Carini returns with that car (nicknamed The Bathtub) this year and will again be filming an episode of his show at the Hershey hill climb event for the Velocity Channel.

David L. George II, a member of the Elegance at Hershey Board and Grand Ascent Race Director, said, “We are extremely pleased and excited about Wayne’s expanded participation in this year’s Elegance at Hershey weekend. This year his role at The Elegance expands and Wayne will be a guest speaker at the Elegance dinner Saturday night and help host our main event on Sunday.”

The Elegance at Hershey events raise money for JDRF, (The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), the AACA Museum and the AACA Library and Research Center in Hershey. All events are open to the public and advance tickets are available at www.TheEleganceAtHershey.com or by calling 717-534-1910.
