The Freddie March Memorial Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival 2015 was held the evening of Friday, September 11th at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.
This year’s 90-minute, two-driver race into the dark featured a collection of classic sports racing cars in the spirit of the 1952 to 1955 Goodwood Nine Hour races, including some examples of the Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3 and DB3S, Maserati A6GCS, Austin-Healey 100S, Alfa Romeo 3000 Disco Volante, Cunningham C4R, Cooper-Jaguar T33, Allard J2 and HWM-Jaguar, among others.
The Freddie March Trophy was won in dominant fashion by Goodwood regular and JD Classics hot-shoe Chris Ward in the striking Cooper-Jaguar T33. Ward had taken over the car from JD Classics boss Derek Hood down the order but instantly set about tearing into the gap ahead and by the half-distance had struck out at the head of the field and was beginning to build a commanding lead.
Ward didn’t have a smooth ride to the finish as, with about half-an-hour remaining, the heavens opened and a short, but significant, rain shower sent numerous front runners, including Ward himself, scampering across the grass as grip disappeared.
Rather than being fazed, Ward seemed to use the rain to his advantage and went on to stretch his lead to a full lap, finishing ahead of the RGS-Jaguar Atalanta of Nuthall/Wood and the second Cooper-Jaguar of Kyvalova/Keen before the chequered flag was flown.
