The 2011 running of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was held August 19-21 at the 11-turn, 2.238 mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California. A strong entry list of 550 historic automobiles competed in 17 groups running the gamut from Pre-1940 Sports Racing and Touring Cars to 1981-1989 FIA Manufacturer’s Championship & IMSA GTPs. Jaguar was the featured marque at the 2011 event, having served in the same capacity at the 1976 and 1992 Historics.
This year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion represented the 38th consecutive year of vintage car racing on the Monterey Peninsula in August. While many still call the races the Monterey Historics, the race weekend — regardless of its name — is tops when talking about historic automobile racing events in the United States.
