The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational was held June 5-8, 2014 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. The inaugural Indy Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational marked the first time that a vintage racing series has ever competed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
SVRA served as the sanctioning body of the three-day Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational where more than 700 race cars competed in 12 different race groups on the 13-turn, 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) road course. The event, which also featured exhibition runs on the famed 2.5-mile IMS oval, gave race fans the opportunity to meet drivers, get close to historic race cars and speak with car owners. Outstanding weather on Saturday enhanced the experience of a healthy turnout of race fans. Thick rows of people clamored along Gasoline Alley leading to the pit entrance to catch a glimpse of the wide variety of car classes that included examples of pre-war machines, sports cars, Formula One, Le Mans prototypes, as well as the crowd-favorite Indy 500 Roadsters from the 1950s.
In addition to David Ferguson’s report and photos, photographer Michael DiPleco also documented the 2014 SVRA Indy Brickyard vintage car races with the following pictures that capture entrants on the famous IMS track. We split up Michael’s 180 images into two galleries. The first gallery starting below features our favorite images, all displayed in the full-width view of Sports Car Digest, while the second gallery can be found on the last page of the article and gives a comprehensive view of all the photographs.
